SESAR2020

Europe’s ATM system is based on ageing technology and procedures and needs updating particularly in light of the expected traffic growth in the next two decades. Started in 2007, the SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) Programme is the public-private partnership that coordinates and concentrates all EU research and development activities in ATM for application to the Single European Sky (SES) initiative. SESAR pools together a wealth of 3,000 experts in Europe and beyond to define, develop and deploy what is needed to increase ATM performance and build Europe’s intelligent air transport system.

The second phase of the program, called SESAR 2020, will demonstrate the viability of the technological and operational solutions already developed within the SESAR R&I Programme (2008-2016) in larger and more operationally-integrated environments. The validation of full 4D Trajectory negotiation over ATN applications is a major operational milestone.

Skymantics has a past performance record of helping government and industry members of SESAR in the design and validation of new data link communication systems and Global SWIM. Currently, we support data link manufacturing industry in the validation and standardization of multilink air-ground communication systems in the context of PJ.14. One of the main areas of expertise is the alignment of implementation options and design assurance levels with the industry’s interests in terms of product development cost, certification and business model.
